What Is the Future of Chevy Truck Beds?

future of Chevy truck beds

As vehicle technology progresses year after year, cars and trucks get lighter, while simultaneously getting stronger, more efficient, and more powerful. As for the future of Chevy truck beds, we can expect the same type of progress.

According to industry speculation, GM could start incorporating carbon fiber into future models of the Chevrolet Silverado. Carbon fiber is lighter than steel, which would help the Silverado become more efficient. But, it is also stronger than steel, which is a necessity for a rugged truck bed.

Reports indicate that the material would be a carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic with a dense configuration. This material would be less expensive than the carbon fiber materials used in other brands, while still delivering superior strength and durability.

What do you think? Should Chevrolet make the switch to carbon fiber for its truck beds or do you prefer the tried and true steel? Share your opinion with us in the comments below.

6LE Designs Creates New Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

Camaro IROC-Z
Camaro IROC-Z

The Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z isn’t around anymore, but a decade ago it was an iconic part of Chevy’s racecar lineup. Now, it’s on its way to classic status, but it still recalls Chevy’s impressive racing heritage. In fact, it’s such an important part of racing history that 6Liter Eater Designs (6LE), a muscle car customization business, has reimagined it.

6LE took a modern sixth-generation Chevy Camaro and altered it to include plenty of IROC-Z design features, like the exterior black stripes, a COPO Camaro hood, and a range of packages that boost the horsepower to 1,100 with the help of a Whipple supercharger. The goal, according to 6LE, was to create what the Camaro IROC-Z would look like today if Chevy was still making it.

The 6LE Camaro IROC-Z is so powerful that the design company will hold classes teaching buyers how to drive it safely. 6LE also plans to hold yearly races, echoing the history of the IROC series and benefiting charities.

The Camaro IROC series may not be in production today, but you can buy the latest Camaro at Stalker Chevrolet. Give us a call today to find out more or take a test drive in this iconic muscle car.

How to Prepare Your Car for Winter
How to Prepare Your Car for Winter

Here in Iowa, winter comes early and lasts for a long time. That means now is the time to prepare your car for winter. With a few easy steps, you can help make sure you will make it through the season.

  • Fluids. Your vehicle’s fluids are its blood. If any of them are low or dirty, your car will not run properly.
  • Tires. During the winter months, you need tires that can cut through ice and snow and still stay pliable even when it is frigid outside. Consider switching to winter tires for optimal performance.
  • Lights. As the days gets shorter, you will be spending more time driving in the dark. Make sure all of your exterior lights are working and angled properly.
  • HVAC. You will need both your heater and air conditioner during the winter. Your heater warms you up, while the A/C removes the fog from your windshield.
  • Emergency kit. In case disaster does strike, you want to be prepared. Make sure you have an in-car emergency kit with items like high energy snacks, water, blankets, road flares, a small shovel, etc.

If you want to make sure your car is ready for the cold weather ahead, schedule a service appointment right here at Stalker Chevrolet. We will give your car the professional touch.

How to Safely Deep Fry a Turkey

How to Safely Deep Fry a Turkey
How to Safely Deep Fry a Turkey

Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. If you are in charge of the turkey this year, you have a big job ahead of you. One preparation method that is gaining in popularity is to deep fry a turkey. However, this method can be a bit dangerous if not done properly. Here are a few tips to get a tender, juicy turkey without injury.

  1. Set up your propane deep fryer outside on a flat surface away from any houses, garages, or decks.
  2. To determine how much oil you will need, place your thawed turkey in the fryer and fill it with water until the turkey is just covered. Remove the turkey and drain all the water back into the fryer. Mark the water line and discard the water.
  3. Add oil to the fryer to the line you marked and preheat the oil to 375°
  4. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and prepare it with any seasonings.
  5. When the oil is ready, turn off the burner and slowly lower the turkey into the oil. Turn the burner back on.
  6. Cook the turkey for 3-4 minutes per pound. Check with a meat thermometer to ensure it is ready. Dark meat should reach 175-180 degrees and white meat should be 165-170 degrees.
  7. Turn off the burner and slowly lift it from the fryer. Let it stand for 20 minutes before handling.

Are you planning on deep frying your turkey this year? You are welcome to share your leftovers with us at Stalker Chevrolet.

For drivers who want or need a roomy SUV, the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Custom trim may be the affordable alternative you’ve been waiting for. Chevrolet recognizes that, although the economy isn’t the greatest right now, car shoppers still want capable, roomy options that don’t force you to hurt your wallet. That’s where the new Custom trim comes in.

According to Cars.com, the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Custom is based on the LS trim, though it adds a few features. These new features include 18-inch painted alloy wheels, a chrome-accented grille, and second-row seating. “The Tahoe Custom is a response to strong customer demand for Tahoe, as well as the full-size SUV segment moving upmarket,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet Trucks marketing director.

Tips for Tailgating: Enjoying Football Season the Right Way

Tips for Tailgating
Tips for Tailgating

Football season has started, which means more and more drivers will be tailgating before the games begin. There’s nothing more enjoyable than firing up the grill, having some drinks, playing games, and hanging out with other diehard sports fans. That’s why we’ve put together these tips for tailgating that’ll help you make this year’s tailgating season more enjoyable than ever.

First, according to ABC, one of the most important things to do is mark your territory. In other words, get to the stadium early to find a great parking spot and be sure to mark your perimeter. You can attach balloons to your mirrors or lay down rugs to show others where you’re going to be located.

If you have the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, you’ll have plenty of space for supplies. Nevertheless, you may have trouble keeping hot food warm without wasting your battery on an accessory. You can get past this issue by turning an ordinary cooler into a food warmer. Simply wrap four bricks in foil and put them in an oven heated to 450 degrees. After lining the bottom of a cooler with towels and putting on oven mitts, you can put the heated bricks in the cooler for an impromptu oven.

Finally, bring supplies to celebrate your dedication to your team. Bring extra shirts or jerseys for friends who leave theirs at home, and be sure to bring some games. Corn hole or ladder ball are popular, and a football is a must for any tailgating adventure.

Looking for the perfect truck or SUV for tailgating? Test drive any one of the 2018 Chevy models at Stalker Chevrolet today.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel Details

2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel Details
2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel Details

There are a number of admirable things about the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. For instance, its smaller, maneuverable size and roomy cabin provide the best of both worlds. It also features a generous list of standard features, like the Chevy MyLink infotainment system and 7-inch touch screen. But, one of the most remarkable things about the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is its engine lineup, which includes something unusual—a diesel option.

Here are what 2018 Chevrolet Equinox diesel details we know thus far.

The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with the diesel engine has not yet been tested by the EPA. However, Chevrolet is estimating that this little crossover could get up to 39 mpg highway when it’s equipped with the turbo-diesel engine. That would put the Chevrolet Equinox at the head of its segment in fuel efficiency, which is exciting news.

Not only do we expect the turbo-diesel powered Chevy Equinox to be efficient, but we also think it will deliver a fun ride. The diesel engine boasts 240 lb-ft of torque, so acceleration should be consistently responsive.

The all-new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox will be available with its all-new turbo-diesel engine at Stalker Chevrolet later this year. We hope you’ll join us for a test drive of perhaps the most exciting new vehicle in the crossover/SUV segment.

School Lunch Tips for Packing the Best Meal

School Lunch Tips
School Lunch Tips

It’s an age-old question: how do you prepare a healthy school lunch that your kids will actually eat? With these simple school lunch tips from Stalker Chevrolet, you can have your kids eating well all year long.

Plan Ahead

If you want to send your kids to school with something they’ll enjoy, you’ve got to be realistic. Don’t send them your favorite lunch. Instead, talk with them once a month to see what they’re interested in trying. Bring the kids grocery shopping with you so they can pick out the vegetables and proteins they like.

Prep Ahead

Most of the things you’ll be sending along in lunches can be prepared ahead over the weekend. For instance, you can chop up veggies, wash fruit, or make a batch of pasta, soup, or rice. Get the simple stuff out of the way and your morning rush will be all the easier.

Keep the Kids Involved

Their job isn’t over when you leave the grocery store. If you have plenty of fresh options to choose from, your kids will have fun putting together sandwiches and snacks that they know they will enjoy. Their thoughtful lunch will be the talk of the cafeteria, and you’ll never find a backpack with another rejected sandwich in it again.

The Chevrolet Camaro is undoubtedly one of the most powerful muscle cars in the industry, but the upcoming model may prove that Chevrolet has officially outdone itself. The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE brings more performance and an aerodynamic design that allows it to lap the Nurburgring faster than some supercars.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE boasts a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that delivers 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, a perfect 1:1 balance. That kind of performance leads to a 0-to-60 mph time of just 3.6 seconds. As for the infamous Nurburgring, the Camaro ZL1 1LE conquered it in just 7 minutes and 16 seconds. That’s a faster time than its Corvette sibling and every Ferrari on the road.

Aiding the high-powered Camaro’s performance is an advanced aerodynamic design unlike any other, with a package that comes complete with a carbon fiber rear wing. The design itself was tested in a Formula 1 wind tunnel that added 300 pounds of downforce at a whopping 150 mph.

The upcoming model packs in plenty of performance-driven gear, including an onboard Chevrolet Personal Data Recorder and a specialized suspension.

We here at Stalker Chevrolet can’t wait to see the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE burn rubber in person.
