Party in the Park is one of the most popular events in the Creston, IA area, so we’ve decided to do a Party in the Park recap to showcase some of the things you might have missed. With some of the best music around, this event was one of the best in years.
According to Travel Iowa, the Party in the Park event is held every year at McKinley Park in mid-June. This year it took place near the end of June, featuring some of the hottest bands around. This includes the Ultimate Eagles Experience, a Change of Heart, and Revelation (a Journey tribute band). Fans of classic rock could not have had more fun than at the Party in the Park event.
This party serves also serves as a fundraiser for the Creston Parks and Recreation Department. Todd Kinkade, who serves on a committee for the event, said that rock and country tribute bands are great for the event. “Everybody loves the tribute bands. We’ve had excellent feedback.” Kinkade said. “Last year we did very well numbers-wise, so we decided to try it again this year.”
In addition to various bands, there was also a Country Showdown where competitors could qualify to compete at state, regional, and even national levels for massive cash prizes. Sponsored by KSIB radio, this competition is more popular than ever.
With great music and a friendly environment, what’s not to like about the Party in the Park event? Be sure to stop by next year for a good time.
Now that summer is here, you and your family might be making some big road trip plans for the coming months. If you have a long car trip in your near future, make sure your car is road trip ready with these simple steps.
1. Check your fluids. You want to make sure all your vehicle’s fluids are in their ideal state. This includes the oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and even windshield washer fluid.
2. Inspect your wipers. If your windshield wipers are leaving streaks, it’s time to replace them.
3. Have the battery tested. You don’t want to be left with a dead battery while on vacation. Have it tested to make sure it has enough juice to last through the season.
4. Check your brakes. If you will be driving longer than 1,000 miles or driving through mountains, make sure all your brakes are at least 50%. If they are less than that, have them replaced.
5. Check your lights. Make sure all your lights, inside and out, are working. This includes your headlights, taillights, turn signals, and brake lights
6. Inspect your tires. Check your tires to make sure the tread is adequate and can handle any tough driving you may be planning.
7. Repair any lingering issues. If there have been any strange sounds coming from your car or if there is anything else that just doesn’t seem right, get it resolved before you hit the road.
We all know that our pet populations are ever-growing. One of the best ways to keep this in check is by choosing a new pet from a shelter. One of the shelters in our local area is the Dog Gone Rescue. They are holding their first Paws In the Park Fun Run/Walk on June 4th this year to raise money for all that they do.
If you want to participate in the Fun Run/Walk, you can register online for $25. And, of course, your dogs are welcome to join you. Everyone gets a t-shirt plus a bandana for their pet. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. at McKinley Park, Shelter House #6. The run and walk will both start at 9:30 a.m. After everyone has crossed the finish line, there will be awards and a drawing for prizes.
All proceeds from this event will go towards vet expenses, food, and other pet necessities. And, in case you don’t have time to register online beforehand, you can sign up at the park, the morning of the run.
If you know anyone who loves pets and wants to support a great cause, share this event with them so we can all raise as much as we can for Dog Gone Rescue.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has rated the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze at 42 mpg on the highway, making it the most fuel-efficient car in its segment for highway fuel economy.
The Cruze is Chevrolet’s best-selling car around the world, with more than four million sold since it went on sale back in 2008.
Thanks to a new, direct-injected 1.4-liter EcoTec turbocharged four-cylinder engine and 250 pounds of weight reduction, the Cruze L, LS, and LT models equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission were rated at 30/42/35 mpg city/highway/combined, better than rivals such as the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Jetta. The manual was rated at 29/41/33 mpg and the top-of-the-line Cruze Premiere at 30/41/34 mpg.
The new Cruze also uses stop/start technology to bolster efficiency in stop-and-go traffic and achieves about 7% better fuel economy than previous models during city driving.
Mother’s Day is one of our favorite holidays at Stalker Chevrolet. It gives us a chance to show our love and gratitude for the mothers without whom we wouldn’t be alive. Check out some of our favorite ideas for honoring mothers on Mother’s Day!
Create a photo album of memories
Photo albums of memories are one of the best Mother’s Day gifts. They have everything to do with family and the relationship between a mother and her children—and that’s what Mother’s Day is all about, right?
Make her dinner
Everyone loves to have dinner cooked for them, but if your mother or wife is the one usually in charge of the kitchen, she’s sure to appreciate a home-cooked meal even more. Remember to leave the kitchen spotless when you’re done!
Being a mother is stressful; she’ll love the opportunity to get professionally pampered. It doesn’t have to be a spa—it could be an appointment at a massage parlor, a hair salon, or a nail salon. Anything to get those worries out of her head and knots out of her back!
Plan a weekend getaway
Sometimes, the best thing to do is break the daily routine. Plan a weekend getaway at a location where she might enjoy some novel entertainment or relax—whichever you think she might prefer.
Continuing its trend of catering to specific audiences, Chevrolet is offering another special edition Silverado pickup. The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Rally Edition is designed to appeal to the performance-pickup enthusiasts. Unveiled at the Texas Motor Speedway, this special edition offers a more customized look than we’re used to.
Available with 20- and 22-inch black wheels, the Silverado Rally Edition features body-side stripes and black accents. In addition to the exterior look, the special edition also gets some extra features, like a trailering package and dual-zone climate control.
Featuring a black bowtie, the Rally Edition joins the Midnight Edition and Realtree Edition. Unveiled with Dale Earnhardt Jr. behind the wheel, the Rally Edition is expected to sell quickly.
As long as the current sales trend continues, it’s likely we’ll continue to see more special editions. Not only are the special editions selling well, they’re leaving their mark on the brand as a whole.
“They also helped make Chevrolet the fastest-growing truck brand in the industry,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet truck marketing. “In 2015, total Chevrolet truck sales increased 27 percent – double the increase for the total truck market. As we expand our lineup of special editions for 2016, we expect to continue that momentum.”
Four Chevrolet vehicles have been ranked at the top of their segment in the 2016 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, proving once again that when vehicle customers want reliability, their best bet is to go with Chevy.
The award-winning models included the following:
Camaro in the Midsize Sporty Car segment for the 4th consecutive year
Malibu in the Midsize Car segment for the 2nd consecutive year
Silverado HD in the Large Heavy Duty Pickup segment for the 2nd consecutive year
Equinox in the Compact SUV segment
In addition, two other Chevrolet models were ranked in the top three of their respective segment; the Tahoe was ranked second in the Large SUV segment and the Silverado was ranked third in the Large Light Duty Pickup segment.
The study is based on problems reported in the last year by the original owners of three-year-old vehicles. The fewer problems were noted, the higher the model was ranked. If you like driving cars, SUVs, or trucks that have fewer problems than most others in the industry, then you’ll love our lineup at Stalker Chevrolet!
Leap day only comes once every four years, giving us 24 hours of extra time we didn’t have before. As part of a campaign dubbed #DayItForward, Chevrolet encouraged everyone to take that time to do something really nice and make someone’s day.
It didn’t just tell people to do it, though—it set an example with the help of some well-known actors and actresses like Kevin Spacey and Eva Longoria, and even major league pitcher Daniel Norris of the Detroit Tigers.
Watch Kevin Spacey shock an aspiring actor.#DayItForward Campaign
As part of the #DayItForward campaign, each of these celebrities did something nice for someone: Spacey offered help to an aspiring actor, Longoria gave back to children with cancer, and Norris spent a day at a ballpark with a young fan battling thyroid cancer—the same disease he himself survived.
Even if you missed #DayItForward on leap day, you can still do a good deed regardless of the day or the month. Tell us all about your acts of kindness on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/StalkerChevrolet!
Do you like your pickup trucks dark and sinister? Do camo designs make your head turn? Then you’ll love the latest thing to come out of Chevrolet’s decade-long partnership with Realtree: the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Realtree Edition.
The Silverado Realtree is special-edition model inspired by the outdoors that Chevy knows its customers love to explore. If you’re a fan of camo, then you’ve probably heard of Realtree already, as it is widely regarded as one of the world’s top camouflage brands.
The Silverado Realtree didn’t quite get the full camo treatment, though. The outside is all blacked out, including the bodywork, bowtie emblem, side steps, and wheels; however, the inside features that camouflage you know and love.
The special-edition pickup is based on the Silverado 1500 in LTZ trim with a crew cab and the Z71 package, which means it features a locking rear diff, an underbody shield, hill-decent control, monotube shocks, and all the other goodies you need for the ultimate off-roading experience.
It launches in the spring, so we’ll see you soon at Stalker Chevrolet!
What’s a Camaro worth? If we’re talking about a COPO Camaro, quite a bit. Chevrolet only builds a handful of these each model year, and this time around, the very first sixth-generation COPO Camaro was donated at a Barrett-Jackson auction, with all proceeds of the winning bid going to United Way.
The car sold for $300,000 to an unnamed bidder, who owns and races another modern COPO Camaro, so it’s quite possible we’ll be seeing the car at drag strips in the future.
Auctioned alongside it was the very first 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS coupe, which fetched an even greater price at $500,000, with proceeds benefiting Kettering University. NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick had the pleasure of taking that one home. It’ll be joining his collection of other incredible cars, including the 5th-generation Camaro coupe and convertible, the very first modern COPO Camaro, the first Corvette Z06, and the first Corvette Stingray C7 coupe and convertible.
