Here in Iowa, winter comes early and lasts for a long time. That means now is the time to prepare your car for winter. With a few easy steps, you can help make sure you will make it through the season.
Fluids. Your vehicle’s fluids are its blood. If any of them are low or dirty, your car will not run properly.
Tires. During the winter months, you need tires that can cut through ice and snow and still stay pliable even when it is frigid outside. Consider switching to winter tires for optimal performance.
Lights. As the days gets shorter, you will be spending more time driving in the dark. Make sure all of your exterior lights are working and angled properly.
HVAC. You will need both your heater and air conditioner during the winter. Your heater warms you up, while the A/C removes the fog from your windshield.
Emergency kit. In case disaster does strike, you want to be prepared. Make sure you have an in-car emergency kit with items like high energy snacks, water, blankets, road flares, a small shovel, etc.
If you want to make sure your car is ready for the cold weather ahead, schedule a service appointment right here at Stalker Chevrolet. We will give your car the professional touch.
Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. If you are in charge of the turkey this year, you have a big job ahead of you. One preparation method that is gaining in popularity is to deep fry a turkey. However, this method can be a bit dangerous if not done properly. Here are a few tips to get a tender, juicy turkey without injury.
Set up your propane deep fryer outside on a flat surface away from any houses, garages, or decks.
To determine how much oil you will need, place your thawed turkey in the fryer and fill it with water until the turkey is just covered. Remove the turkey and drain all the water back into the fryer. Mark the water line and discard the water.
Add oil to the fryer to the line you marked and preheat the oil to 375°
Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and prepare it with any seasonings.
When the oil is ready, turn off the burner and slowly lower the turkey into the oil. Turn the burner back on.
Cook the turkey for 3-4 minutes per pound. Check with a meat thermometer to ensure it is ready. Dark meat should reach 175-180 degrees and white meat should be 165-170 degrees.
Turn off the burner and slowly lift it from the fryer. Let it stand for 20 minutes before handling.
Are you planning on deep frying your turkey this year? You are welcome to share your leftovers with us at Stalker Chevrolet.
GM recently expanded a partnership with the ridesharing company Lyft in order to give drivers more selection. Specifically, drivers in California and Colorado will be the first to have access to the new all-electric 2017 Chevrolet Bolt, an exciting opportunity for many eco-conscious drivers.
According to Fortune magazine, the Lyft Chevy Bolt deal is being offered in these two states largely because that’s where the demand for the new all-electric vehicle is. However, Lyft co-founder John Zimmerman stated that the service would eventually be offered across the US, which should include the Bolt as well.
The new Bolt model should be made available once it is in full production, sometime in the fall. Until then, though, only Lyft drivers will have the rare opportunity to drive this next-generation vehicle. The Lyft-GM partnership will work to get the latest technologies on the market as soon as possible, though the ultimate goal of both companies is to develop an urban-friendly autonomous vehicle fleet.
For now, the latest technology on the auto market is the Bolt. This model comes with an estimated range of 200 miles per charge, as well as a quick-charging 240-volt input. An advanced battery makes it possible to travel much further, while custom controls and a 10.2-inch diagonal display make it easier to keep track of vehicle info and to access media. There’s nothing like the new Bolt. We can’t help but be a little jealous of Lyft drivers that will be behind the wheel of this new car soon.
Leap day only comes once every four years, giving us 24 hours of extra time we didn’t have before. As part of a campaign dubbed #DayItForward, Chevrolet encouraged everyone to take that time to do something really nice and make someone’s day.
It didn’t just tell people to do it, though—it set an example with the help of some well-known actors and actresses like Kevin Spacey and Eva Longoria, and even major league pitcher Daniel Norris of the Detroit Tigers.
Watch Kevin Spacey shock an aspiring actor.#DayItForward Campaign
As part of the #DayItForward campaign, each of these celebrities did something nice for someone: Spacey offered help to an aspiring actor, Longoria gave back to children with cancer, and Norris spent a day at a ballpark with a young fan battling thyroid cancer—the same disease he himself survived.
Even if you missed #DayItForward on leap day, you can still do a good deed regardless of the day or the month. Tell us all about your acts of kindness on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/StalkerChevrolet!
2014 COPO Camaro being auctioned off to support the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
More wounded veterans can now participate in marathons, thanks to Chevrolet. The American carmaker recently made a $400,000 donation to the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, a program that helps veterans wounded in war participate in races. This donation represents the sale of the first-ever 2015 COPO Camaro racecar, which sold earlier this month at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction.
“This sale gave the highest bidder the opportunity to buy the first of only 69 factory-assembled 2015 COPO Camaro race cars, the final year of the fifth-generation Camaro,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Chevrolet was excited to offer this milestone Camaro to help a very worthy organization.”
The COPO Camaro was hand-built, carrying the serial number, ‘2015COPO001’. With a distinctive styling, this racecar features a white exterior that is highlighted with matte gray and orange accents. It even features bold “15” graphics. Chevrolet has also fitted the COPO with a Whipple 2.9-liter supercharger, which is rated at 555 horsepower. The first Chevrolet COPO Camaro auction proceeds will allow the Achilles Freedom Team to support more wounded athletes as they train to reach their racing goals.

Chevrolet just proved that shock value is one of the best ways to be remembered. Before the kickoff of Super Bowl XLIX on NBC, Chevrolet made 100 million football fans scramble when the American carmakers advertisement for the Chevrolet Colorado made them believe their TVs had failed—only to show viewers that it was merely a commercial for the Chevrolet Colorado.
Called “Blackout,” for good reason, the Chevy Colorado Super Bowl commercial appeared to be a live game feed that transitioned into static, then a blank screen, mere minutes before the big game was set to start. It then transitioned into sharing that the Colorado has 4G LTE WiFi, making it the perfect pickup truck for a time like this.
With this jaw-dropping commercial, Chevrolet proved that you don’t necessarily need an advertisement during the Super Bowl to make a lasting impression. If you are interested in seeing the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado for yourself—especially to check on the built-in WiFi hotspot—stop in to Stalker Chevrolet today!
At Chevrolet, your safety is our number one priority. That is why it comes as no surprise that four different Chevrolet models have received the 2015 Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2015 Spark, Volt, Malibu, and Equinox each proved that not only are they aesthetically pleasing and capable, but they are also some of the safest cars in the industry.
“Receiving this recognition from IIHS for the 2015 Spark, Volt, Malibu, and Equinox is great news for Chevrolet and even greater news for our customers,” said Steven Majoros, director Chevrolet Cars and Crossover Marketing.
To earn the 2015 Top Safety Pick rating, each of the four vehicles had to receive a ‘good’ or ‘acceptable’ rating in the challenging small overlap front test, which is the most difficult crash test out there. Each vehicle also had to receive a good rating in the IIHS’ four other tests.

During the Army/Navy football game every year, Chevrolet and Wish for Our Heroes come together to hold a military family reunion during half time. This year, as the family of US Army Sgt. Jonathon Preston Thompson reunited, they received a bit of surprise—a brand-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado.
“As we’ve seen with the Thompsons and millions of others, military families make huge sacrifices for our country, and it feels good to celebrate Sgt. Thompson’s homecoming with a brand-new truck,” said Dan Akerson, former General Motors Chairman and CEO and a graduate of the US Naval Academy.
We at Stalker Chevrolet were thrilled to see the Colorado join the family reunion at the Army/Navy game.
Sergeant Thompson served our country in two deployments. The family recently lost their house at Fort Riley in Kansas to a fire, which they are still recovering from. Hopefully, the Chevrolet Colorado will help them do just that. The Colorado was recently named Motor Trend magazine’s 2015 Truck of the Year, showing that its capabilities and perfect size will make sure the Thompsons have a dependable vehicle.
