During the Army/Navy football game every year, Chevrolet and Wish for Our Heroes come together to hold a military family reunion during half time. This year, as the family of US Army Sgt. Jonathon Preston Thompson reunited, they received a bit of surprise—a brand-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado.
“As we’ve seen with the Thompsons and millions of others, military families make huge sacrifices for our country, and it feels good to celebrate Sgt. Thompson’s homecoming with a brand-new truck,” said Dan Akerson, former General Motors Chairman and CEO and a graduate of the US Naval Academy.
We at Stalker Chevrolet were thrilled to see the Colorado join the family reunion at the Army/Navy game.
Sergeant Thompson served our country in two deployments. The family recently lost their house at Fort Riley in Kansas to a fire, which they are still recovering from. Hopefully, the Chevrolet Colorado will help them do just that. The Colorado was recently named Motor Trend magazine’s 2015 Truck of the Year, showing that its capabilities and perfect size will make sure the Thompsons have a dependable vehicle.
If you’ve kept up with our blog the past few years, you’d have read all about Chevrolet’s numerous awards. And today we’re talking to you about another one. This year the Chevy Camaro Z/28 was named Motor Trend’s Best Driver’s Car.
If you’ve got an hour or so to spare check out the video below, if not continue to read our blog. 🙂
The Chevy Camaro Z/28 was put up against an impressive set of vehicles:
Alfa Romeo 4C
Ford Fiesta ST
Jaguar F-Type R Coupe
Nissan GT-R Nismo
Porsche 911 Turbo S
Subaru WRX STI
Volkswagen Golf GTI
To be a contender in the Best Driver’s Car competition Motor Trend required that all vehicles be all-new or significantly revised performance cars launched in the 12 months prior to testing.
These cars were put through a battery of test including laps at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and a high-speed hill driving course.
Motor Trend’s editors had this to say about the Camaro Z/28 after the test:
“The transformation of the fifth-generation Camaro from ‘muscle car that handles pretty well’ to Best Driver’s Car winner is astounding. You feel the superior engineering in how the car responds to inputs both internal and external. From within, the car reacts immediately and precisely to your commands but doesn’t punish your mistakes. From the outside, the Z/28’s suspension attacks bumps and dips with an unbridled passion for keeping the tires on the pavement.”
Chevrolet built the Camaro Z|28 with tradition in mind. Going back to the days of race and track cars with high downforce, greater grip, and faster lap times. But it wasn’t all about speed for GM and Chevrolet, handling and breaking were also key components in the Camaro Z|28’s makeup.
Equipped with racing-bread dampers, tires and large Brembo carbon ceramic brakes Chevrolet was able to get the most out of the Camaro Z/28 lap after lap.
According to Mark Reuss, GM executive vice president, Global Product Development, “The mission for the new Z/28 was to create the most capable, best-handling Camaro in our history.” Reuss continued, ““As such, I can’t think of a better validation of that mission than for the Z/28 to be named Motor Trend’s Best Driver’s Car.”
That’s a fair assessment since the Chevy Camaro Z/28 was the first American-brand car to win the 7 year old award. Past winners have been the Porsche 911 (GT3, Carrera 2S, Carrera 4S), Porsche Cayman, Ferrari 458 Italia, and Audi R8.
As an official sponsor of Major League Baseball and the 2014 MLB All-Star game, Chevrolet was involved in the post game awards ceremony. Chevrolet is pretty good at giving away vehicles at sporting events, less than six months ago Malcom Smith was awarded a 2014 Silverado 1500. But this time Chevy put a little twist on the situation.
After going 2-for-3, with a double, triple, two RBIs, and a run scored; Mike Trout was named the 2014 MLB All-Star MVP. In addition to leading the AL to a 5-3 win and locking up World Series home field advantage for his division, Trout had a decision to make. Instead of just being awarded a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 or a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country, the 22 year old center fielder got to choose.
Now this is a pretty difficult decision. North American Car of the Year or North American Truck of the Year? Mike Trout’s mom can be heard picking the Corvette and like any good son, Mike goes with his mom’s choice. Trout does offer an explanation as to why he picked the ‘Vette, but I mean it’s a Corvette. No explanation needed, young man. And to his credit, his decision is made pretty quickly.
One of the fastest players in the MLB now has one of the fastest cars Chevy has ever produced. Enjoy that Corvette Stingray Z51, Mr. Trout.

Father’s Day – that day on the calendar marked with a star,
Where sons and daughters are reminded how lucky they are.
Mothers and grandmothers look on with a smile,
At the men who have helped make their lives more worthwhile.
And while fathers are known for a few indiscretions,
They use them as tools to help children learn lessons.
So smile dad it’s your day.
Postpone the work it’s time for play.
Hit the golf course, spend time at the lake,
Or get out the grill and cook up a steak.
Whatever your fancy, make it so,
Because father’s days come and father’s days go.
And while your children grow older with each passing spring,
You’ll never forget all the memories they bring.
All the laughter, the anger, the tears, and the fears.
The ups, the down, the joy, and the jeers.
And through all the emotions a father stands close,
To be there for the ones that he loves most.
Thank you fathers, dads, pops, and papas.
Thank you granddads, pop pops, and opas.
The day is titled for you, but we all know better,
Father’s Day is everyday a child and their father are together.
Stalker Chevy is thrilled to announce that over the last 18 months, the best Chevy designers and Disney Imagineers have been collaborating on a project that will allow Walt Disney World Resort guests a chance to take a deep look into automotive design. What they have come up with is nothing short of magical.
Resort guests will get an inside-look at the design process of vehicles at the world-famous Disney Test Track. Guests are then inspired to do some designing of their own, maybe even cultivating their expertise to make up the future generation of automotive designers.
The Chevrolet-presented Test Track is a three-part guest experience. First, guests get the chance to design their own vehicle, taking helpful cues from Chevy design experts. Second, they will then test drive their vehicle design through the ride, receiving an evaluation and a score based on several criteria. Finally, guests can race their vehicle on a digital driving table, produce and share a commercial starring their self-created car, and pose for action shots in front of their design.
The re-imagined Test Track Presented by Chevrolet will officially open on December 6 of this year. We at Stalker Chevy are extremely excited. We may even have to take a day or two off ourselves to go check it out!
The 2013 Chevy Spark has been a frequent topic of conversation since its release in the U.S. a few months ago. The stylish mini car takes on a personality of its own as an adventurous urban vehicle with worldly experience. While versions of this conveniently sized car have been zipping around throughout the world for some time, the Spark is just starting to explore in the U.S.
The Chevrolet Spark will continue its journey around the U.S. while taking some passengers along for the ride through a partnership with MTV. This partnership will bring breaking artists from around the world to the United States through an online music showcase called “Cover the World.”
Four global artists will create a cover of an iconic pop song chosen by fans through online voting. Fans will then vote for their favorite cover version, earning them the chance to win a custom-wrapped Chevy Spark and a trip for two to see one of the acts perform. Fans can also win a Chevy Spark by creating and uploading their own cover version of the song.
The four participating artists are U.S.-based All Time Low, Jamaican artist Gyptian, the South Korean group The Wonder Girls, and Angus Stone from Australia. To learn more about the artists, songs, or how to participate, visit www.covertheworld.com.
