Valet Mode Coming to 2015 Chevy Corvette

On the completely redesigned 2014 Impala, Chevrolet introduced a valet mode. Valet Mode has received some upgrades for the 2015 Chevy Corvette, including Performance Data Recorder.

Now, not only can you lock interior storage, disable Chevrolet MyLink®, and audio and video. But now you’re also able to track vehicle data. That’s right you can track speed, engine RPM, gear position, and g-force when Valet Mode is active in the 2015 Chevy Corvette.

“Think of it as a baby monitor for your car,” said Harlan Charles, Corvette product manager. “Anyone who has felt apprehension about handing over their keys will appreciate the peace of mind of knowing exactly what happened while their baby was out of sight.”

For those who want instant feedback they can instantly playback video on the Stingray’s color touchscreen, while the car is parked.

Harlan Charles stated, “Performance Data Recorder was initially designed as a tool for track days…“We soon realized the system could have many more applications, such as recording a scenic drive up Highway 101, or recording when the Valet Mode is activated.”

The Performance Data Recorder system features a 720p high-def camera mounted within the windshield header trim. This captures video from the driver’s point-of-view and records.  PDR also comes equipped with a self-contained telemetry recorder. Using a GPS receiver, the telemetry recorder is hardwired into the ‘Vette’s Controller Area Network to access vehicle information.  To store and transfer data the PDR system has a built-in SD-card slot in the glove box. An 8 GB card can record approximately 200 minutes.

Four different data overlay options are available while recording Performance Mode, Sports Mode, Touring Mode, and Track Mode.

Performance Data Recorder and Valet Mode will be available on all 2015 Chevy Corvettes.

Trout Chooses Corvette Stingray Z51

As an official sponsor of Major League Baseball and the 2014 MLB All-Star game, Chevrolet was involved in the post game awards ceremony. Chevrolet is pretty good at giving away vehicles at sporting events, less than six months ago Malcom Smith was awarded a 2014 Silverado 1500. But this time Chevy put a little twist on the situation.

After going 2-for-3, with a double, triple, two RBIs, and a run scored; Mike Trout was named the 2014 MLB All-Star MVP. In addition to leading the AL to a 5-3 win and locking up World Series home field advantage for his division, Trout had a decision to make. Instead of just being awarded a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 or a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country, the 22 year old center fielder got to choose.

Now this is a pretty difficult decision. North American Car of the Year or North American Truck of the Year? Mike Trout’s mom can be heard picking the Corvette and like any good son, Mike goes with his mom’s choice.  Trout does offer an explanation as to why he picked the ‘Vette, but I mean it’s a Corvette. No explanation needed, young man. And to his credit, his decision is made pretty quickly.

One of the fastest players in the MLB now has one of the fastest cars Chevy has ever produced. Enjoy that Corvette Stingray Z51, Mr. Trout.

Chevrolet Autobots Roll Out in Transformers: Age of Extinction

Soon it will be summer. And that means summer blockbusters. Returning for a fourth installment is Michael Bay’s Transformers. Each of the Transformers movies has featured a host of GM vehicles, the most popular being Bumblebee; the every present black and yellow Chevy Camaro.

In the first iteration of Transformers we see Bumblebee as a tired 1969 Camaro, before he takes on the look of the 2006 Camaro Concept.  A concept that would be put into production as the fifth generation Camaro and receive rave reviews and see impressive sales.

Coming back to the newest Michael Bay production, Transformers: Age of Extinction, we will get to see another Chevy Camaro concept specifically designed for the movie. Could this be another glimpse of things to come? Sources have been indicating that Chevrolet is looking to redesign the Camaro in the near future.

This Camaro Concept will be featured in Transformers: Age of Extinction

However; Bumblebee isn’t the only Chevy to make an appearance in Age of Extinction.  Heck, Bumblebee isn’t even the only Camaro to make the movie. A modified 1967 Camaro SS is also supposed to take the big screen, along with a custom Corvette Stingray and a custom built Sonic Rally Car.

If you’re unfamiliar with Michael Bay movies they’re all about big action and lots of explosions. So if that sounds like something you’d enjoy, I’d certainly recommend Transformers: Age of Extinction. If that’s not really your cup o’ tea, then heck at least you get to see some pretty amazing Chevy cars!

A Present Day Look at the History of Chevrolet

102 years. That’s a long time for any organization. It’s even more impressive when you consider that Chevrolet has been through what many are calling a “resurgence”.

Chevy will have redesigned its entire truck line, with the reveal of the 2015 Chevy Colorado next week. The 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 used power, fuel economy, and an exterior and interior facelift to reestablish its spot as best full-sized truck. And the recently revealed 2015 Chevy Silverado HD features enhancements to make sure you can get the big boy jobs done right.

Speaking of the big boys, Chevrolet has also spent time renovating its crossovers and SUVs.

The legacy that is the Chevrolet Suburban is all-new for the 2015 model and so is the 2015 Tahoe. Chevy also took to redesigning the Traverse in 2012.

All-New 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban

In the car segment, Chevy introduced the United States to the subcompact Spark last year and brought the all-electric Spark EV along this year.  But the biggest news for Chevy cars was the completely redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Impala.  The refined elegance, performance, technology, innovation, and more make the 2014 Impala a beautiful masterpiece in this namplates long line of icons.

Make no mistakes about the Chevrolet brand, Chevrolet still means amazing performance machines; big engines and fast cars. This is evident by Chevy’s three performance vehicles; the legends, Camaro and Corvettte, and the newcomer SS.

For Camaro, they’ve brought back the pure performance moniker Z/28. However, this isn’t just bringing back the name for nostalgia. The Camaro Z/28 is built for speed, handling, and performance. No excess here, just an aerodynamic Camaro built for the track sitting on Pirelli® PZERO™ Trofeo R tires.

Making waves in Chevy’s performance fleet is the all-new SS. The Chevy SS is the rear-wheel-drive V8 that Chevy fans have been waiting for 17 years.

And last but certainly not least. The flagship of Chevrolet performance. The iconic American sports car. The Chevrolet Corvette. This year the Corvette returned with its seventh body style and brought back the Stingray nameplate. And the 2014 Corvette Stingray is completely deserving of the name. A low aggressive stance with impressive lines and curves fueled by a 6.2L V8, makes the Corvette Stingray a precision speed machine.

The evolved Corvette is here

With 102 years of experience the history of Chevrolet is undoubtedly guiding the decision of the present and future. And with a history like Chevrolet’s you can expect more great vehicles in the near future.

The Chevy Corvette Stingray That Could Have Been

By now you’ve seen or heard of (and a lucky few of you have driven) the all-new 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray, but did you know that it could have looked substantially different?

Remember the 2009 blockbuster, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Well along with Bumblebee, perhaps the most famous present day Camaro, there were several other Chevy based Autobots.  Sideswipe, a sleek and versatile Autobot, is the embodiment of a vehicle that was first showcased at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show as the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept.

Rear of the 2009 Chevy Corvette Stingray Concept

The Corvette Stingray concept gained some of its inspiration from the 59 Stingray Racer, as well as previous Corvette models; much like the 2014 Corvette Stingray does.

While there are many similarities between Sideswipe and the production Corvette Stingray, you can certainly see that Chevrolet went back to the drawing board to come out with a more refined and impressive design.Automatic Door Chevy Corvette Stingray concept

While we don’t have many specs or features about the 2009 Corvette concept we do know it had one unique feature left off of the 2014 model; aside from turning into a heroic alien robot, automatic vertical opening doors.

The concept was fun, but we’re glad to see that Chevrolet waited a few more years to produce the 7-speed, 460 hp, 0 to 60 in 3.8 second, stunning machine that is the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray.

What’s An Efficient Sports Car? Chevy Corvette Stingray

More good news about the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray? Yes, this car has it all. Not only does it have 455 horsepower, but the Corvette Stingray recently set the standard for sports cars in the fuel efficiency department.

At an EPA-estimated 17 MPG city and 29 MPG highway  coupled with that 455 horsepower make the Corvette Stingray the only vehicle on the market to deliver 455 hp and greater than 29 MPG highway.

“The Corvette Stingray establishes the benchmark for modern performance cars by using technologies to deliver more performance and more miles per gallon,” said Tadge Juechter, executive chief engineer for the Corvette. “We expect more and more performance cars will follow Corvette’s example.”

This is not to say other sports cars don’t deliver more than 29 MPG highway, but those that do offer significantly less power.  Like the Porsche Cayman and BMW Z4 sDrive28, 30 MPG/275hp and 34 MPG/241 hp, respectively.

And there are other vehicles that deliver more than 455 hp, but they give up significant fuel economy. The Jauar F-Type S and Audi R8 V10 offer 495 hp/23 MPG and 510 hp/19 MPG, respectively.

The design, technology, interior, power, legacy, performance, and now amazing fuel economy make the 2014 Corvette Stingray the choice for a new sports car this year. 2014 Corvette Stingray

Super Bowl. Super Car. 2014 Corvette Stingray

As you may or may not be aware, this Sunday the San Francisco 49ers face the Baltimore Ravens on the gridiron. The winner of this clash of titans will be awarded the coveted, Vince Lombardi Trophy, bestowed upon the World Champion each year.

However, there are several unique twists to Super Bowl XLVII (47 – for those who favor current mathematics).

Let’s start with the teams. Neither team has lost a Super Bowl. The 49ers are 5-0 and the Ravens are 1-0. The head coaches are brothers Jim and John Harbaugh, and both have made the playoffs in each season they’ve coached;  winning at least one game every time.

But enough about the game let’s get to the good stuff. We all know it takes dedication, passion, hard work, and talent to become a Super Bowl MVP. These traits are also evident in the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The all-new Corvette Stingray will be presented to the MVP of Super Bowl XVLII. How’s that for a good day. Super Bowl Champion (Most Likely, only one MVP has ever been on a losing team), Super Bowl MVP, oh and by the way you get an MVP trophy, trip to Disney World, and one of the most impressive machines known to man. That’s probably more than a good day, we’re thinking more along the lines of a good year…or life.

While we may not be able to get our hands on the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray just yet, we can assure you that when we do we’ll make sure to let you know so that you can stop by Stalker Chevrolet. That way you can be the first one to cruise around town in the latest in the iconic Corvette line.
